This little red table has been with me since Christmas 2008. It has never once had a makeover!! Wow! I don’t think I have ever owned anything that long with out updating it somehow!! I guess it is time to give this side table a makeover!!
A couple of months before Christmas that year in 2008. I was in Pier 1 Imports. I found an awesome little table. It is shaped exactly like the one pictured below only it is smaller in diameter and taller. It is more like a mini entry table. You can see a pic of that table over here.
I like red, and at the time I was sort of on a red and yellow kick. Most of my decor was red and yellow. For some reason and I can’t remember why but I decided that I wanted to paint the entry table….. Can you guess what color???
BLUE…..
Blue is hands down my favorite color, so this wasn’t too surprising.
What was surprising is that the table was already red and my decor at the time has a lot of red….
…… I don’t know what I was really thinking there.
Ok so, back in 2008 I crafty but, I wasn’t quite as smart.
I decided to paint this metal table with blue acrylic paint……hhhmm
I wonder how that worked out….
Luckily, I was painting it in the bathtub ( don’t ask) I realized after I had painted the entire thing that the paint wasn’t sticking to the table…..
Luckily it was pretty easy to wash it off….since I was in the tub…..phew!!
The entry table now has a blueish tint to it. I actually love it and I still have it in my home.
For Christmas 2008 we were going to be traveling over 900 miles to go see family. Since we were traveling such a long distance Mr. Main decided to give me my gift early. He had also gone to Pier 1 and found me a matching side table to go with my entry table. It was prefect!!
I did not paint the side table blue to match the entry table. I didn’t have it in me to paint the whole thing and then wash it all off…..haha
I really like the pop of color from the entry table but the red side table has become a distraction here at our current house. Plus, it seems like it has been a while since I did a furniture makeover!! So I guess you could say I killed two birds with one stone. But don’t worry, no birds were harmed in this makeover….. 🙂
Here is the BEFORE
I wanted this table to be more functional and match my current style. I cut a piece of 1/2 inch mdf into a square that would fit the bottom of the table. See image 2.
Then I drilled a hole in the bottom of the table as well as the mdf. See image 3
I picked up four casters from home depot and screwed them into the holes that I just drilled out!! See image 4
After everything as assembled I added some lattice to the bottom of the table to act as a transition from where the table legs end and the mdf starts.
I used Rust-Oleum Heirloom White
and spray painted the whole thing. I did about 3 light coats of paint. I did’t want to risk getting any drips.

I am quite pleased with the way it turned out! It fits my style so much better and now it feels more functional with the added shelf on the bottom. What do you guys think about wheels on furniture? Yay or nay?!Let me know what you think about it in the comments section.

You made a complete new piece out of it! I love the wheels and it seems they would be very functional making it easier to clean in those pesky corners.
