I have been talking so much lately about IVF and our infertility journey. It has been on the forefront of my mind for the past couple of months which is why I have been talking so much about it.
I have to admit, I have another secret to share, another part about me that I have kept secret. I have finally decided to share. My hope is that others will be able to relate and find courage to change, to get better!
Can you guess what it is?
dun dun dun ( in a low descending voice tone)
It all began in high school. I developed these really bad headaches, one might even call them migraines. Whatever the term, they were bad. I found myself at the doctors office for what seemed the 20th time, trying to find a medication that would relieve the pain and discomfort.
Due to the excessive amount of medication, lack of exercise and poor nutrition, I was on a downward spiral.
Over the course of 2 years I gained 40lbs.
I was uncomfortable and grumpy. My self esteem was at an all time low. It was getting to the point where people were making comments about my weight, it was embarrassing.
Here are a couple pictures. I know that my hair back then was WAY different but it gives you an idea.
If I had to describe myself back then, I would say I was “thick.” You could always find me wearing a loose fitting shirt and usually “comfy” pants….loose pants.
It’s funny now, but whenever I look back at those pictures of myself I cannot help but say “Shonee, why did you not take control sooner?” The fact of the matter is that I did not even realize that I had gained so much weight.
Unless you have been there, it is very hard to comprehend. The scale said one thing, I knew I was heavy, but my mind, for whatever reason, would not let me know how bad it was. Looking back now, I get embarrassed that I let myself go.
Luckily…..
I was able to get in with some girls who were active. We started to get fit. That was all it took to light a fire under me and get me motivated for change.
Here I am one year later at my first half marathon. I am in the middle….
Ever since then, I have been passionate about health and fitness.
I came across something that I cannot pass up, I have to tell you about it!

Set some time aside to speak with her openly and honestly about anything. It could be small-talk about how your day went, or it can be deeper and more meaningful conversations about what makes you both happy.

For example, you could talk about your first childhood memories, a favorite family traditions, worst fears, or lifelong dreams.
