I wanted to do somewhat of a little recap of my trip to Salt Lake City last week. If you are following along with me on Instagram then you probably saw a couple of posts I made about our trip.
It was so very scary for me to go and be with all of these amazingly successful people. I totally felt like a fish out of water.
But, I learned so much. Plus, all of these awesome ladies are so nice and I made some really great friends.
I took a class on social media. There is so so so much more to social media than I ever thought possible. I probably could have taken a whole conference on social media!!
I am hoping to implement some of the things that I learned and be more active on social media!
One of the biggest things that stuck out to me was one of our key note speakers. He talked about finding our “Why” in life. You can find a link to the website here. I am still in the process of finding mine!!
One of my goals this year is to share more of myself here on the blog. I am hoping that by finding my “why” I can do that!!
So I figured since I want to share more of me, now is a good time to start!
For the most part the conference went without a hitch except for one. little. incident.
You know those incidents where you want to shoot yourself in the foot because you are so embarrassed, ya I had one of those!!
This is how it happened.
While at the conference they brought us all together into a big room at the hotel.
They gave each of us bingo cards that had a bunch of random questions like “has blue eyes”, “hates to fly” or “ate cereal for breakfast”.
The idea was for us to go around the room and get to know each other and hopefully make some connections. For instance, if you met someone who had blue eyes then you could have them sign that box.
The incentive was some amazing prize, which they wouldn’t reveal. The result seemed like everyone was moving frantically from one person to the next saying “Hi, can you sign this!?” and then moving to the next person.
I was actually getting into it!
I was meeting people and getting out of my comfort zone. I wanted to really make some connections! As I was starting to get into my groove I decided to whip out some of the business card gifts that I had prepared to give out.
I was so nervous to give them out.
I handed the first one to younger woman. As I handed it to her she was smiling with wonder, I am sure she was thinking “Oh, what a fabulous gift, I wonder what amazing thing could be inside?”
(ya, uhhumm!)
After I handed it to her, she took it in her hand and immediately looked confused. My heart dropped. I knew that for sure that she thought it was dumb. She said nothing and walked away.
I charged on and didn’t let that stop me.
I had come to this conference to meet people and that is what I was determined to do.
I marched on.
I continued to give out my gifts and most people smiled and said thank you. I was meeting some amazing people! My spirits were up and I was just sure people loved my gift! I knew that I was making life long friends!!
Then I came to a woman who was very boisterous. She was talking loud and laughing loud too. She was the type that always dominated any room she was in. I engaged her in a short conversation. After we were done talking I asked her for her card. (knowing I would give her my awesome card… lol)
I confidently handed her my gift with a smile. The next few moments still play in my mind in slow motion.
After she took it, she said “Oh yuck!”
I asked her “What’s wrong?”
She exclaimed “It’s all wet, WHY?!”.
I quickly looked into my bag and realized that my water bottle had leaked out all over my gifts, filling the bottom of my bag. The full water bottle was now empty!
Luckily, it wasn’t leaking out all over the floor!
Then it hit me….
I had been handing out wet gifts to everyone….
Have you ever picked up an object that is mysteriously damp? You sort of hold it way out in front of you with two fingers not quite sure what do with it.
I think I had a mini panic attack. I quickly left the meet and greet and ran upstairs.
I was sure my world was coming to an end….
I was definitely not going to make life long friends like this!!
In an attempt to save my gifts that I had spent time making, I laid them all out on the hotel desk to air dry. ( I should have taken a picture)
After sitting on the desk all day and night they dried out enough for me give away! No real damage was done to them. fffeeewwww
I learned a couple things from this experience.
Don’t let a little water ruin your life and bring bottled water with a good lid!!

Shonee, you are so cute. And your gifts were super sweet. I'm glad they didn't get all ruined and that you had a good time. I wish we'd gotten a little more time to get acquainted. Next time, right?

I love the creativity behind this Halloween game! With all the holiday fun, it can be hard to stay on top of assignments. If anyone studying hotel management is feeling the same, this hotel management assignment help could be a lifesaver for balancing schoolwork and seasonal activities.
