Am I a little late to the party……!?
I mean I have been seeing these brilliant faux taximdery heads for a few years now….
A few months ago I finally went in search for the perfect head….I guess it was time….
After much deliberation about cost and brand I finally ended up choosing this deer head

I figured that I would easily be able to paint it whatever color I wanted and with the lower price tag I was happy with my decision.
The deer arrived quickly and I was super excited to paint it. I ripped open the box to hurry and take some before pictures….. Miss. A was also quite excited and intrigued by the head. She wanted to hold it and inspect every detail.
I thought that there was no harm in letting her hold the head.
She was thrilled…..
She started walking around the room talking to the head saying:
“Deer, you are so cute Deer!!!”
All of a sudden I hear a crash.
The deer had fallen to the floor slipping out out Miss A’s hands and was now missing an ear…….sheesh….
As I inspected the poor earless deer I discovered that the ear had made a clean break…phewww
I was able to salvage it by using my favorite glue
and all was better.
and all was better.
A few days later when I was finally able to paint this guy I was holding one of the antlers trying to get paint on all the grooves and round edges. All of a sudden it slipped out of my hand falling to the ground……
Can you guess what happened…..yep…..one of the antlers broke off…… back to the gluing I went….
Again I waited for a few days to let the glue dry before I could commence with the painting…. Finally I was able to finish it!
A couple things to keep in mind if you decide to paint one of these guys too.
1- It takes a lot of paint
It will take a least one can of spray paint. There are tons of grooves, holes and crevises that make it hard to get the paint everywhere.
2- Use light coats of paint
Spray on the paint lightly. Drips will happen if you spray too much too fast.
3- This thing is sort of fragile
This head is quite fragile…..see the story above. I literally dropped the antler 12 inches off of the ground and it snapped. It is made out of some sort of brittle plastic. Be careful.
You might have seen the sneak peek that I showed a little while ago! I am not sure if this will be the its final spot but for now I like. Also, these frames are from my failed gallery wall project. I like them here better!!
You might see this deer head floating around our house until I find the best spot for him!

This is so cute! I love the clean look of the white frames on the gray and you did a great job painting that little guy. I've been seeing this trend a lot too, but so far I've only gotten the courage to get a printed version rather than a 3D one. My husband might need a little convincing before I take that step!
