I picked up this picture from from a local thrift store. I choose this frame because of how thick the frame was, as well as the white accent in the grooves. I knew I would be giving it a makeover so I looked for a frame that had good details. Here are two before pictures:
I used my favorite ASCP to paint, in Graphite.
I wanted the color to be as black as possible. In order to achieve this, I painted the frame with the Graphite paint and then I skipped the clear wax and went directly to the antiquing wax. Since the chalk paint is so dry it soaked up the dark wax really well and gave it this beautiful deep color.
I really love how it turned out. I then took a bronze sharpie marker
and drew in all of the grooved accents to give it a little bit of a bronze flair. It came together perfectly.
If you noticed in the before pictures the mat on this frame is oval, not exactly what I was looking for.
Not a problem though, I just flipped it over and used the back. I painted the mat with Rust- Oleum Chalk Board Spray Paint. I then took some regular chalk and rubbed it all over the mat board to break in the chalk board. Once I was done with that I put it into the freshly painted picture frame along with the glass.
For the “Oh Happy Day” writing in the picture below I used my favorite Chalk Ink Chalk Board Markers, I seriously use these ALL. THE. TIME. To remove the chalk marker I took a dry paper towel and wiped it off. You can also get the paper towel wet first it will smear a little but no dust!!!
Because of the glass you can use it as a chalk board or as a dry erase board! I love that even though the background has a black chalk board look, I can still use black dry erase markers.
**Did you know that you can also use permanent markers on glass. To remove permanent marker get a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball and rub it off effortlessly. How awesome!!
What do you guys think? Would you ever make one of these for your home? I would love to chat on Instagram or Facebook or in the comments section below.

Frames are so expensive, so I love finding old ones to makeover. This is a genius idea and so much easier to clean than the real thing. Thanks for linking up to Merry Mondays! I'm pinning this.

I love to find old frames that I can paint and make them look new again. This frame is actually quite old and I love the character that it has. Gotta love less mess, too, right! Thanks for pinning!

Thanks Amanda! If you have not tried the chalk markers yet you NEED to!! The only way I ever write in chalk now is with chalk markers. They also come in so come in a few different colors.
