A little while ago I showed you my command center reveal! I am still loving it by the way!! This little tin caddy is part of my command center organization. Today I want to show you how fun it is to find an item and have a vision of its potential.
I first have to say that I love to shop the end of season sales. That is when I can score some really great items to makeover. For example, this piece was originally painted with summer colors. They had another one there that was similarly painted this black color. I knew if I waited a couple more weeks that this summer one would be on sale and I could paint it whatever color I wanted.
Sure enough a few weeks later it was over 70% off. Totally worth the wait. If you are wanting to get into doing DIY makeovers, I would recommend shopping the end of season sales!
Here are a couple of the before pictures.
To paint this beauty I used Annie Sloan Graphite chalk paint. This was my first experience using chalk paint on metal so I will have to see how it holds up over time. The paint went on really easily so I am crossing my fingers. After the paint was done drying I used some Annie Sloan Antiquing Wax to give it a slight sheen and a finished look.
I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out a few different designs to put on the side of it. The shapes that I used were:
As a side note, if there are any Silhouette Cameo fans out there, I started using masking tape on the sides of my paper/vinyl so that I can keep using my unsticky mat longer. It works really well.
As you can see I am still trying to figure out where I want to put everything and how I want to get it organized.

I love the way it turned out! I am now kicking myself for not picking up something similar that I saw on clearance a couple weeks ago. I could have turned it into something special 🙂
Hey don't kick yourself too much Trish 😉 ! At least now you know what to look for. I try to never let color determine if I make a purchase because for the most part changing the color is pretty easy! Be on the look out for some great end of season fall sales in the next month or so.
